ISIS FEST
VENDOR INFO & APPLICATION - ISIS FEST 2007

GENERAL INFORMATION

Isis Fest, July 18-22, 2007, is a grand gathering of eager Egyptophiles, Egyptomaniacs, and ancient Egyptian spiritual revivalists, along with avid afficionados of the Bedouin, Berber, Kabyle, Ouled Nail and other traditional tribes of north Africa and the Middle East.

The Isis Fest Egyptian New Year Jubilee & Bast Bazaar is presented by the Temple of Isis in Geyserville. It is an extended weekend outdoor festival, a costumed theme event celebrating the myths and traditions of the magical cultures of ancient Egypt and the tribal traditions of that area, all flourishing right here in the beautiful rural northern California wine country of Sonoma County, 75 miles north of San Francisco.

You are invited to come and discover an amazing place where gods and goddesses become flesh again, and where our theatrical flying carpet brings the magic of exotic belly dances and flamboyant tribal music and dances to life. All this will be produced at the wonderful facilities of Isis Oasis Retreat Center ("Little Egypt") whose lovely grounds evoke ancient Egyptian goddesses and myths. In addition Isis Oasis is populated with an extraordinary, beautiful menagerie of unusual cats and birds from Africa and other parts of the world.

Isis Fest takes pride in showcasing a myriad of unique talents, by gathering quality crafts, artistry, music, dance and live theater performances, as well as ancient spiritual ceremonies, academic Egyptology teachers, plus music and dance classes, all in a colorful themed atmosphere of delightful visual surprises.

We invite you to take advantage of this distinctive opportunity as a merchant participant in our old north African village suq, the "Bast Bazaar."

Costuming:
The theme event concept of Isis Fest must be understood. THE VISION:
We are attempting to re-create a real sense of ANCIENT Egypt plus
a mix of TRADITIONAL folkloric costumes & culture of north African tribes:
Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Nubia + the wider Middle East
.

Everyone's costuming MUST be in general alignment with this thematic concept -- "Celebrating the Spirit of Ancient Egypt and Tribal North Africa -- everybody (vendors, performers, staff and other attendees) -- there will be no "gawkers" at this event, only participants (to some extent or other). We won't be completely anal about costuming, but we really seek to create a look & feel of another time, another place. We request that you do make a sincere effort to cooperate with the costume theme while in public onsite (pool area is clothing optional, so that is an exception). Even the ordinary year-round Isis Oasis staff workers will be in costume for Isis Fest.

This is not Renaissance Faire, Burning Man, Tribal Fest, Rakkasah, Goddess Fair, Fairy Fest, or any other event you have ever been to. It is unique. Please study the whole website to understand the vision and the melieu desired. Weave your own fantasy, but find a way it can relate and fit into ours. That will be much appreciated.

We accept TRADITIONAL (pre-1920 or pre-Westernization) costuming from the entire Middle East as relevant. We will endeavor to put more inspirational costume resources on the website over the coming months. But please do your own research and costume construction, if you are not already so equipped. Besides its fun!

Merchandise:
Obviously, we also desire that merchandise being sold fit into this thematic vision for Isis Fest. PLEASE understand we are creating a UNIQUE event, and we DO expect you to assist us in that endeavor. Think "Customize" for the stock you will bring to this event specifically. Please get into the conceptual fantasy we are working to present, and find win-win ways to work with us on it. We can ALL have fun with this, and have much to share with each other in the process. If you question the appropriateness of your merchandise for our event, please ask before you send in your application fee (vend@isisfest.net).

All vendors (and their workers) must be in appropriate costume attire. Booths must be staffed and open during the designated hours. Items & services sold must be approved by Isis Fest.

Vendors will receive confirmation of acceptance shortly by email (and a vending contact phone #). A final information packet will be sent about 3 weeks before the event. Fee payment must accompany application. We appreciate your participation.

Proceeds from Isis Fest will benefit the exotic animal sanctuary that the Temple of Isis maintains in Geyserville.

NOTE: Isis Fest reserves the right to expel any participant, without refund, due to unsafe or disruptive behavior, or for failure to adhere to event costume and theme guidelines. It is the responsibility of participants to comprehend and accept the Isis Fest concept, to come with a positive attitude and intent to play cooperatively and enjoy the festival, and to be responsible for one's own choices and actions while here.

  • Also, Sonoma county has high fire danger in the summer, and stringent fire regulations will apply to all attendees of Isis Fest, as required by the venue.
  • No personal pets (dogs, cats, etc.) are permitted [dancers with snakes excepted, of course].
  • Isis Fest is a drug and alcohol free event; wine (VERY Egyptian) may be served in moderation by Mummy's Kitchen at some dinners, that being the only exception.
  • Isis Oasis has a no smoking policy. We are trying to get them to allow 1 designated smoking area, however, IF that is approved, it will not be in the vending area, but in the parking lot behind the lodge.

OK, that's a lot to absorb.
And also there will be a lot going on at Isis Fest with performances, processions, plays, ceremonies, music & dance classes, arts & craft (etc) booths, Egyptological lectures, tours of the exotic cats and birds, an 'archaeological' dig for the kids, plus the hot tub, swimming pool, sauna, dining pavilion, the beautiful grounds of Isis Oasis, the swan and duck pond (with real Egyptian geese) etc.

At the same time, know that Isis Oasis is a retreat center, there is a generally laid back feel to it (along with its cool Egyptomania decor). And . . .

People will be coming to the event for many different reasons, but all with some significant attraction to the general themes of ancient Egypt and/or traditional North African & Middle Eastern tribal culture, and all with enough involvement (and courage) to come in costume. We hope you will use this time as more than just a vending opportunity, but also for networking, for sharing and learning, and for a bit of personal R&R. All that would be right in the spirit of Isis Fest! Let's enjoy our time together at the festival we are building here in 2007.
